For Africans Living in the UK: How to get that Smoky Party Jollof Rice Flavour Without Firewood

I know alot of us have been looking for a way to get that smoky saturday party scent and flavour in our Jollof rice without cooking with firewood.... Trust me i have!!! LOADS of times. I stumbled on something very unusual recently that blew both my mind and my Jollof rice away withlLoads of goodness.

The little magic is called Liquid Smoke

Adding 1-2 tablespoon of liquid smoke to your Jollof rice give you that smoky smell and taste of those jollof rice you eat when you go to african parties and resturants.

Where to buy liquid smoke:

Click here to buy it on Amazon UK.

Few Guidelines on How to cook Jollof Rice

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (400g) long grain parboiled rice
  • 1.2kg (2.6lbs) hard chicken (hen)
  • 5 plum tomatoes
  • 3 tatashe peppers
  • 1 Shombo
  • 2 onions
  • A medium piece of ginger
  • 1 or 2 Garlic
  • 1 cup (200g) tomato paste
  • ½ cup vegetable oil for frying the tomatoes
  • 2 Knorr cubes -  Depending on the amount of rice being made
  • 1 habanero pepper (or to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon thyme
  • 1 tablespoon of white pepper
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper
  • Salt (to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon curry powder
  • 5 bay leaves
  • 2 tablespoons liquid smoke

Before you cook Jollof Rice

  1. Blend the sweet pepper (deseeded), tomatoes (deseeded), habanero pepper, half an onion (chopped) with ginger juice.
  2. Prepare the tomato stew. Boil the tomato puree till all the water dries up then fry with the vegetable oil and add a diluted tomato paste later and fry till all the tangy taste of tomatoes is gone.
  3. If you will use whole chicken then wash and cut it into pieces. Cook with the thyme, Knorr cubes, half of the black pepper, 1 onion (chopped) and the bay leaves. I use a pressure cooker to reduce the cooking time of the hard chicken. When done, grill it in an oven. You may also deep-fry it. This is to give it a golden look which is more presentable especially if you have guests for dinner.
  4. Parboil the rice

Cooking Directions

  1. Pour the chicken stock and the tomato stew into a sizeable pot and leave to boil.
  2. Add the curry powder, salt, black pepper, Maggi, liquid smoke and other condiments of your choice. S
  3. Add the drained parboiled rice, Stir. The water level should be the same level of the rice.
  4. Cover the pot with a foil and leave to cook on low to medium heat. This way the rice does not burn before the water dries up.
  5. If you parboiled the rice well, the rice should be done by the time the water is dry. Taste to confirm.
  6. Stir with a spatula and transfer the rice to a cool contain so it will stop cooking.
Serve with Grilled fish/ chicken, Fried Plantain, Moi Moi, Salad or Coleslaw.

Try out the liquid smoke and leave a comment on how it turned out

My Topcashback Earnings

Hello everyone! being a long while but yes! Am still here *smiles*...  So one of the things am ALWAYS passionate about is ways to make and save extra money here and there, regardless of having a well paying full time job, i still find all opportunities to make extra cash every now and then. One of my all time favourite extra money maker is Topcashback.

TopCashBack allows you to earn money from the items you buy both online and offline. I use the site for online purchases and this is how it works:

1. You sign up with TopCashBack and search for the shop you wish to buy from e.g. Dunelm

2. Search results will bring up the shop (if they are signed up to TopCashBack) and then you click on the orange box that says 'cashback'

3. You will then be taken to the Dunelm website where you order whatever you want in the same way you would do if you hadn't gone via TopCashBack

4. You'll receive notification via email that your visit has been tracked and the update on the cashback.

How much can you earn?

Below is how much i have earned from September last year up until now.

- It depends on what the shop is offering sometimes it is an amount e.g. £50 when you sign up to BT broadband or 10.1% on what you spend at Dunelm.

- It also depends on how much you shop online and in stores.

- I've earned £551.24 since September 2015. Its quite a good chunk of money within that timeline and what you could do is just put the money you earn into a savings account and let it build up.

Pros:

- You can earn more than just pennies

- If you're shopping online anyway, why not earn money doing it?

- It's so easy to use

- You can earn money from referring friends and family to use the site

- There is a helpful team of staff who can help if your cashback hasn't shown up on your account - fast response

- No need to download anything

- No minimum payout

- Payout days just days to appear in bank account.

- Lots of shops pay you cashback on repeated transactions...rather than "On your first purchase"

Cons:

- Sometimes your order isn't tracked, but it's likely due to an error on the shop's site rather than TopCashBack or something to do with having ad blockers on your computer. Anyway I give it a few days for a purchase to show in my account before lodging a claim.

- You need to log in to your account at least every 6 months otherwise your account is removed and you'll lose any money you haven't claimed.

So, if you are interested in signing up and making a lil bit of cash.... then please do so HERE:

Bootea 14 Days Detox Review

Hello everyone, so i have been exclusively MIA as i have a new personal project i have been working on which is really taking up most if not all of my time but I've been so excited to write a post about these little gems i received from BooTea about 3weeks ago!

I have heard so much about this Bootea that has raved so much on social media and by so many celebrities. This teatox claims to perform a ‘perform a much needed, intensive cleanse of your digestive system to help achieve the results you want’ and a result of this can be weight loss. On hearing the reviews on these products, I couldn't wait to try it out!

So I received the Bootea bundle which includes 'BooTea Little Oats', 'BooTea Shake', 'BooTea Multi-Vits', 'BooTea 14 day & night teatox' and 'BooTea Shaker'.

The teatox comes with two different teas; the daytime tea that you drink every morning and the nighttime tea that you drink every other night. The daytime tea has a lemon grass taste which is not the nicest at first, but you do get used to it. The nighttime tea has my favourite taste, very pepperminty and calming. The bedtime Cleanse has a light laxative effect to remove excess toxins and waste from the body.

*Warning* If you would be going out earlier than 8hours after using the bedtime cleanse then please skip it as it's laxative effect would make you rush to the bathroom very often the next day.
It's called a "cleanse" because it will "cleanse your colon out" - which is in fact a GOOD thing. I found the cleansing effect to be quite effective for those looking to loose weight. The "cleanse" happens usually the next morning and it happens 2-4 times before lunch.

What's in the Bootea tea?
The Daytime Detox (morning tea) contains Chinese Oolong tea, maté leaves, ginger root, fennel seeds, lemongrass, dandelion leaf, ginseng root, Gotu Kola leaves and nettle leaves as well as a touch of caffeine to leave you feeling motivated to hit the gym that day.
The Bedtime Cleanse (colon cleansing) contains senna leaves, peppermint leaves, fenugreek seeds, liquorice root, burdock root, hawthorn leaves, valerian root and psyllium seeds and will most likely induce a laxative effect to naturally cleanse and detoxify your body (more on that later).
'The properties of the herbs in teatoxes help the body to get rid of unwanted toxins gained from our diet, lifestyle and environment and to break down fat,' Helen says. 'Some of the herbs in the teas can stimulate metabolism, as well as having anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties, all of which aid weight loss.'

The packaging of the teatox is so lovely, the sealed bags are cutely and practically packaged. Inside, the tea is packaged in luxury-looking silk teabags with the ingredients inside. It’s very convenient as many teatoxes just come with loose leaves which can be a hassle.

Now do Bootea really work?? To put it straight, YES IT DOES! During my 14 day detox, i did notice a significant change in the way i feel, i felt alot lighter and  I felt great! and yes i lost a massive 13kg in about TWO weeks although i do slice in some lemon to my tea and always drink it hot.... i guess this helped with the weight loss as well even though i wasn't really looking to loose weight but am glad i did.

I really really recommend the Bootea teatox if you want a helping hand regarding your weightloss journey and/or want to feel healthier in yourself and give your body a good detox!

Have you tried Bootea? Lets hear what you think about it

6 Amazing Natural Oils For A Baby Smooth Skin

An amazing skin is every woman's dream, every lady want to have a clear, smooth skin. Amazingly, not everyone know how to get that perfect skin tone they have always desired. If you are struggling to get that baby smooth skin you want, then am going to tell you the 6 Natural Oils that can help you achieve this. We all know oils are a lot better moisturizing than most of the creams out there and the best part is, they are all NATURAL. Now lets begin having a look at my highly recommended list of oils:-

1. Sweet
Almond Oil

This is one of the most used carrier oils in aromatherapy as it is absorbed quickly into the skin and is excellent for most skin types. Great for unbalanced or oily skin, sensitive or dry – sweet almond oil is gentle and mild and keeps the skin’s natural oil levels in check. Packed with essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals and proteins, sweet almond oil is also a superb remedy for stretch marks. Gentle and mild, suitable for dry, sensitive skin.

Sweet Almond Oil can be found Here

2. Jojoba Oil

A bit of a misnomer, jojoba is not an oil, but a liquid wax – cold pressed from the jojoba nut and taken from a shrub, native to Arizona, California, and Northern Mexico. It is hydrating for dry skin without leaving oily skin feeling greasyIt mimics the natural sebum produced by the sebaceous glands, which helps to maintain moisture levels within the skin cells. Easily absorbed and perfect for aging skin, jojoba provides the same protective benefits to our skin as it does to its own plant cells. Perfect for sensitive and ageing skin.

My recommended Jojoba Oil can be found Here

3. Grape Seed Oil

The ancient Egyptians were eating grapes over 6000 years ago, while the ancient Greeks couldn’t make enough wine from them. The humble grape’s oil, however, is chock full of nutrients, such as skin- brightening vitamin C, which is superb for targeting uneven skin tone. While it may be a little too greasy for oily skin, grape seed oil’s high component of procyanidolic oligomers (also known as proanthocyanidins), commonly called PCOs, means it’s brimming with antioxidants, and its collagen-protective properties are thought to be excellent for ageing skin. Evens skin tone while leaving a silky smooth finish

Grape seed Oil can be found Here

4. Argan Oil

For centuries, the Berber women of Morocco have relied on oil from argan trees to keep their skin healthy and youthful. This ‘liquid gold’ of oils is mostly associated with hair products, yet argan oil’s lightweight texture and high concentration of vitamin E (twice as much as olive oil), vitamin A and fatty acids is the perfect oil for combating free radicals on the skin. The oil contains high levels of tocopherols – powerful antioxidants that are vital for healthy skin and hair. High levels of carotenes, phenolic acid, squalene and phenols also contribute to the oils cosmetic value. Extracted from the nut of the argan tree, the oil is touted as an excellent product to soften skin, increase elasticity, reduce appearance of wrinkles and is especially unique as it’s suitable for both oily and dry skins. Reduces the appearance of stretch marks and softens skin

Argan Oil can be found Here

5. Rosehip Oil

Derived from the ‘hip’ or ‘fruit’ of the rose; once the petals have fallen off, this oil is rich in antioxidants (those micronutrients that protect the skin tissue), including beta-carotene and lycopene (found in tomatoes), and works to protect your skin from premature ageing – with research showing that its properties actually assist in reducing the activity of skin-damaging enzymes.
A great source of vitamins A and C, rosehip’s essential fatty acids aid in regenerating skin cells, repairing skin tissue and plays a major role in the formation of collagen.
Effective in treating scars, stretch marks, acne scarring, dermatitis, fine lines and uneven skin tone, rosehip’s ability to moisturise the dry areas of your skin while not adding moisture to oilier areas makes it a fabulous all-purpose moisturiser for all skin types. Pure rosehip oil has a gorgeous earthy aroma and is orange in colour. Light, easily absorbed and perfect for diminishing the appearance
of scarring.

Rosehip Oil can be found Here

6. Tea Tree Oil

Australia’s most renowned natural antiseptic, Tea Tree oil holds a unique and special place in Australian natural medicine. Of course, Aborigines have long known the healing qualities of tea tree, having boiled the leaves for tea and crushed them to make poultices to treat skin infections, cuts and wounds for hundreds of years. With over 300 species of tea trees, the oil of the leaves have become so respected as a natural healer – packed with anti-viral and anti-fungal properties – that during World War II, Australian army soldiers carried it in their first aid kits. A popular ingredient in ointments, shampoos and conditioners, soaps and toothpaste, the antiseptic properties of tea tree make it an excellent remedy for acne. Not an oil for overall use, but perfect for spot treatment on pimples or blackheads, while also acting as a solvent in preventing oily matter from clogging up sebaceous glands. Perfect for acne-prone skin; however, must be used in small quantities due to its strong and often drying effect. Not for sensitive skin.

Tea Tree Oil can be found Here

There you have it. Kindly let me know the list of your own must have oils for smooth skin.
